MLK Quote on Silence of our Friends.
“In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends”. – Martin Luther King, Jr.
The Silence of our Friends:
When the fabric of society is being torn asunder by disparities in racial, social, criminal justice, income, and other areas, keeping quiet is as complicit if not more, according to the famous quotation by Martin Luther King, Jr.
Oftentimes, well-intention citizens that do not themselves harbor such prejudices tend to be aloof and abstain from the debate around issues that lay are difficult to discuss. While opponents will continue to spew venom, if the silent majority remains so, the evil of racism will continue to perpetuate.
So, as MLK states in his quote, more than the vile words and thoughts of the enemies, it is the silence of our friends that stings.
In the words of another famous social justice warrior, Mahatma Gandhi: “Be the change that you wish to see in the world.”
